Skills: Copy-editing and proofreading. I have a good eye for detail and grammar, as well as strong researching skills. I can mark up texts on-screen or on paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader’s comment tools or with BSI symbols.

Subjects: Science and nature, popular film (specific knowledge of fantasy and musical genres, Japanese cinema / animation, and an in-depth knowledge of Walt Disney films, theme parks, and products), academic film, general history, music (music theory, film scores, pop music), equestrian topics and sports, food and baking.

Types of publication: My previous projects have mainly been large, illustrated non-fiction books. However, I would be happy to look at texts including – but not limited to – blogs, websites, publicity materials, marketing, menus, books, board games, articles, magazines.

About me: I am an Intermediate member of the SfEP (Society for Editors and Proofreaders) and studied BA (Hons) Creative Writing and Film Studies at university. I spent just over 4 years working at Dorling Kindersley (a non-fiction publisher in London) before going freelance.

I’m friendly and down-to-earth. I love all things Disney and enjoy sitting outside in the garden when the sun is out. In my spare time I’ll usually be catching up on all the brilliant telly that seems to be on at the moment; walking in the outdoors or watching a film with my partner; and attending our ballroom dance classes – which is not as posh as it sounds.

Types of publication: general non-fiction books, online learning materials, directories, diaries

About me:  After 18 years of working inhouse for reference publishers in London, including over a decade as Editor of Whitaker’s Almanack, I turned freelance in 1999. I have a broad background in non-fiction publishing, and specialise in managing projects requiring a range of publishing skills and/or co-ordination of multi-author input.

Roles include:

  • managing the pre-press stages of print and digital content
  • editing non-fiction for print and digital media
  • editing educational material (including ELT workbooks, dictionaries etc. with interactive content) for digital media
  • tagging the content and testing the functionality of e-learning products
  • researching and updating material for reference titles
  • compiling and proofreading calendar and directory information for diaries.

Regular clients include publishers such as Bloomsbury, Chambers, Hodder & Stoughton and Longman/Pearson Education, and non-publishers such as Smythson.

I am also involved in small local projects, such as compiling a monthly village magazine and concert programmes for a local choral society, and proofreading business literature for small companies.

I am a Professional Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, meaning that I have demonstrated a high level of competence and experience in editing and proofreading, and I have attended a number of the SfEP’s professional development courses since becoming freelance.
