Skills: Proofreading and proof-editing. I am conversant with Microsoft Word track changes, Adobe commenting tools and BSI mark-up. I am comfortable working on screen and paper.
Subjects: I am happy to proofread any genre; it enriches my education. I am interested in crafts (I am an embroidery specialist), charities and not-for-profit organisations, history, animal welfare, Koi carp husbandry, memoirs, autobiographies, biographies and travel.
Types of publication: I have proofread a wide range of publications including fiction, non-fiction, websites, magazines, essays and theses. I am particularly interested in publicity materials.
About me: I am an intermediate member of the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading), with whom I undertook my training. This training encompassed their suite of proofreading courses and targeted training in grammar and punctuation. I continue my professional development with them and am reinforcing my training by undertaking further courses with the Publishing Training Centre.
My recent assignments include novels, a children’s journal, an art book on figurative painting, a self-help book on ME, an account of lockdown, a book on reptile and amphibian care and community projects focusing on local history. I also proofread academic essays and dissertations. I am the editor of my local parish magazine.
I specialise in proofreading material on counted-thread embroidery including cross stitch, needlepoint, pulled-thread work and drawn-thread work. I have a personal interest in animal welfare. I also enjoy proofreading marketing material such as catalogues, magazines and leaflets where consistency of presentation in layout, images and text is crucial.
I have a keen eye for detail, deliver quality proofreads by the deadline and welcome any genre of work.

My name is Louise and I am a professional proofreader living in Yorkshire. It's lovely to meet you and I hope you will continue reading to discover how I can use my proofreading skills and training to help you. I aim to put your proofs through their paces to produce a piece that is a pleasure for your audience to read.
I am an intermediate member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), with whom I undertook training to consolidate and expand my proofreading skills. I have taken and passed the CIEP's suite of proofreading courses. This comprised three demanding and progressively challenging courses; the final two courses were assessed and I passed with merit. I have also undertaken targeted instruction with the CIEP in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
My background is in administration in the tertiary education sector. Therefore, I am very familiar with rigorous requirements ensuring that a piece of writing is polished in terms of spelling, grammar and punctuation.
My knowledge and experience of counted-thread embroidery techniques allow me to proofread that genre with skill and genuine enthusiasm. I also enjoy proofreading material on animal welfare, nature, history and travel.
I work hard to establish consistency in style and presentation when proofreading work. I strive to balance the author's voice sensitively with clarity of meaning. Your finished piece retains as much as possible of your original text.
Let me apply the proofreading skills I acquired through training and experience to show you what a difference professional proofreading will make to your finished piece.
